My dear friend Sue of 35 years was struck down by MS but battled through with that sunshine smile of hers & with the help of devoted Mike & her beautiful family. I’ll miss her wicked smile & laughter that always greeted us after our long journey from Wales but it was worth it to see her face light up with the thought of sharing our latest family news & travel adventures. We met through being Mums of Farnham Youth Choir members & escorted them to competitions & concerts. We would both sit there & let the tears of pride run down our cheeks especially at their renditions of “The Water of Tyne & Elgar’s “The Snow”.I am writing this whilst listening to Alison Moorer’s version of “Carrickfergus” a spiritual Irish tune that Mike often played to us late at night. It brings back such precious memories, music was such a large part of their lives. One of our most fun times was when Sue & Mike came to the annual Elvis Convention in nearby Porthcawl. I persuaded them to come in fancy dress as I reassured them that EVERYONE dresses up! So Mike duly hired his Elvis outfit & wig & Sue wore a typical 50’s skirt with masses of petticoats to show off her tiny waist. We went along with members of my family all suitably attired to find that we were the exception to the rule so much so that we were all interviewed for a Welsh TV programme about the event. Fame at last! I bought several DVD’s which we often look at with hilarity. Sue will be missed by so many of us but I know I will be reminded of her every time I hear birdsong in my garden & see new shoots of life bursting through, she was so full of life. Sadly I missed Sue’s Service but thanks to technology have managed to see the beautiful occasion, so original & unique, just like my dear friend Sue. X
